NC Director's Film Wins Award

Director DJ Summitt’s short film “Clarinet” was announced as the winner of the El Sol award for Best Video at the Baja California International Film Festival on Sunday night. The North Carolina native was on hand at the Center for Culture in Tijuana (CECUT) to accept the award. His film debuted at the Cinema Star in Playas de Tijuana on Saturday, October 29. There was an encore screening at the Cinema Star at Plaza Americana Otay.

Clarinet” marks Summitt’s second film. His first, “Doomed to Failure” will be released on DVD by Troma Entertainment in December. “Clarinet” is also his first film with longtime friend Zac Hayes. The two met in high school in Davidson County where they began writing scripts and studying films. Hayes lives in Lexington where he is currently working on writing the duo’s next feature film.

Clarinet” is an introspective piece on a man who, after the theft of his clarinet, allies himself with a world of nihilism and angst. The film is meant as an homage to the avant garde films of Buñuel, Cronenberg, and Zedd. After graduation from film school, Summitt moved to San Diego to pursue his film career. He is currently preparing to shoot his next film; a horror trilogy entitled “The Manhattan Love Suicides.” For more info contact DJ Summitt at 858-414-6136 or dj@djsummitt.com.
