January 13 - April 20 (closed February 5 - March 1)
Opening Reception and Lecture by Peter Hutton: January 15, 5:30-7:00 pm
Film Screening at UNC Charlotte Center City: January 16, 6:00 pm
The Storrs Gallery on the UNCC main campus presents Peter Hutton's New York Portraits: Chapter I (1979), Chapter II (1981), and Chapter III (1990) from Jan. 13 to Apr. 20, 2016. The 180-degree installation provides a stunning presentation of Hutton’s silent aerial perspectives of America’s most famous city. Hutton will speak at the opening reception on January 15 and again at the January 16 screening of four of his short silent films: Boston Fire (1979), Lodz Symphony (1993), Study of a River (1997), and Three Landscapes (2013).
“Whether seeking remembrance of a city's fading past or reflecting on nature's fugitive atmospheric effects, Hutton sculpts with time; each film unfolds in silent reverie, with a series of extended single shots taken from a fixed position, harking back to cinema's origins and to traditions of painting and still photography.” The Museum of Modern Art
Located in the Thomas I. Storrs Building on the UNC Charlotte campus, the Storrs Gallery showcases professional and student work relating to the curriculum in the School of Architecture and the creative endeavors of the College.
