Upcoming film festivals looking for submissions





Tarheel Shorties Film Festival


The 3rd annual Tarheel Shorties Film Festival kicks off June 8, 2019 in Wilson, North Carolina with a mix of indoor screenings at the historic Edna Boykin Cultural Center and outdoor screenings at the legendary Whirligig Park. This homegrown festival highlights films created with roots in North Carolina.

Surfalorus Film Festival


The 8th annual Surfalorus Film Festival! Presented by Cucalorus and the Dare County Arts Council, comes to the Outer Banks on September 19-21, 2019!

This three-day celebration of coastal North Carolina marine culture is a fun-and-sun filled cinematic synthesis of all things aquatic, showcasing the year’s hottest surf films and ocean documentaries with a series of outdoor sunset screenings and accompanying festivities.

Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2019. Go here for details.


Cucalorus Connect 10 X 10 Challenge

10 entrepreneurs are paired with 10 filmmakers to make a short promo video in just five days during the festival. The Connect conference takes place in November in association with the Cucalorus film Festival in downtown Wilmington.

Lumbee Film Festival


The 2nd annual Lumbee Film Festival takes place May 23-24, 2019 at the UNC Pembroke Entrepreneurship Incubator in Pembroke, NC. The festival showcases original new films made by American Indians, including members of the Lumbee Tribe living in North Carolina and across the United States.
