Leaders of NC Film Industry to speak at Virtual Film Forum; Cucalorus deadline May 18



The virtual 2021 NC Film Forum sponsored by the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Cucalorus Film Foundation continues on Wednesday, May 12th at 5:30pm. May’s session is entitled “State of the State” and will include an in-depth look at the film productions currently underway in North Carolina as well as a forecast for the rest of the year. The featured guests include longtime director of the Wilmington Regional Film Commission Johnny Griffin, Chair of the Governor’s Film Council Susi Hamilton, and SVP of Trailblazer Studios Eric Johnson. The NC Film Forum is a 6-month professional development series providing resources to support the careers of creative professionals who make movies for a living. This year’s series launched in April with special guests like Guy Gaster (NC Film Office), Kathleen Collier (NC Arts Council) and Rhonda Bellamy (Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County). A recording of the April Forum is available online. The 2021 NC Film Forum Series focuses on building business skills for emerging production companies in the region with a series of workshops on topics ranging from film festival submissions to Covid safety. The series takes place the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm on Zoom. Each session includes time for questions and comments from attendees.

Cucalorus Submissions due May 18


Cucalorus is also accepting submissions for the 27th annual Cucalorus Film Festival on FilmFreeway. The final deadline for the 10th annual Surfalorus Film Festival presented by NC Aquariums is May 19. And last but not least, the Filmed in NC program offers funding to filmmakers living and working in North Carolina for bold, original new projects with awards ranging from $500 to $3000.
